Buddhism Classes (Schedule)
Level I
Meditation methods: breath-counting, mindfulness of the breath, middle way reality (a Zen practice).
Topics covered: introduction to Buddhism and Zen, Karma and causality, the Four Noble Truths ( suffering, the cuses of suffering, nirvana, the Noble Eightfold Path), three Refuges, Five Precepts.
Level II
Meditation methods: Compassion contemplation and other methods
Topics covered: the bodhisattva ideal, the six paramitas: the perfection of charity, morality, tolerance, diligence, meditation, and prajna wisdom.
Sutra Study
Previous completion of Level 1 & Level 2 classes at the Zen Center are highly recommended.
Monastery Events (Schedule)
Monthly Ceremonies
Buddha Jewel Monastery holds Sunday ceremonies on the First Sunday once a month as well as on special occasions. Everyone are welcome to attend and participate in these meaningful events. The ceremonies consist of many services, includes Chanting the Sutra and prostrations to the Buddha, Grand meal offering to the Buddha, Blessing and Memorial Services, Dharma Lectures by Celebrant Master and Birthday Celebration. After the Ceremonies, a delicious vegetarian meal will be severed.
