Our History
Ten years ago, the founding abbot of Chung Tai Chan Monastery, Venerable Master Wei Chueh, came to Seattle to teach. Ten years later, Buddha Jewel Monastery is finally established in Seattle. Buddha Jewel Monastery is not only Chung Tai’s largest U.S. branch in terms of meditation hall, but also Chung Tai’s highest global branch in terms of degree of latitude. The Chinese media in Washington State called the Monastery, “The famous Buddhism Center in the Pacific Northwest”.
Since it was established in September 2008, Buddha Jewel Monastery has been offering a wide variety of programs including Zen Buddhism Classes in different levels, Sutra Study and Youth Classes in both Mandarin and English. These programs represent the persistent efforts of the Monastery’s Abbot and Masters. The number of students is increasing steadily.
