Master Jian Yan

Present Duties:
As the abbess of Buddha Jewel Monastery, Master Jian Yan is the administrative and Dharma leader of the monastery. In addition to giving many Dharma lectures in English and Chinese each week, she also conducts meditation retreats, presides over ceremonies, and is a spiritual advisor to all.

Her deep wisdom and compassion uniquely qualifies her to impart the skills needed to practice the Way in various class levels. Master Jian Yan resolves to dedicate herself to spreading the Dharma to benefit all sentient beings.

Master Jian Jian

Present Duties:
Master Jian Jian is the executive director and docent director of the monastery. Her responsibilities include planning and coordinating classes, activities and ceremonies. She is also in charge of the maintenance of the building and grounds with the assistance of many able volunteers.

Master Jian Lu

Present Duties:
Master Jian Lu is the docent director of the monastery. She manages fundraising and tablets, and informs visitors and disciples about our programs, services, and classes.

Master Jian Wen

Present Duties:
Master Jian Wen, the docent director, is often the first to greet visitors to the monastery. She leads the daily chants, participates in ceremonies, and is charged with the day-to-day duties of the monastery. The entire Sangha and lay community benefits from Master Jian Wen’s sweet demeanor. Seattle is fortunate to have Master Jian Wen at Buddha Jewel Monastery. Her background in humanities and social science together with her compassionate nature are a harmonious mix for spreading the Dharma.
